I received an email from my yarn supplier last week that two of my regular bases and a club base are now discontinued.  I was disappointed, because the regular bases have been with me since I opened up in 2009.  The club base is brand new to me, but I totally fell in love with it this month.

The regular bases are White Ash Worsted and Black Cherry Lace.  Long time customers will remember that I used to offer Pin Cherry Lace, which looked the same as Black Cherry only had 20% silk.  That base will be making a comeback to maintain two lace options.  I originally dropped it because silk prices have skyrocketed in the last few years, but I have no other choice.  With the loss of White Ash Worsted, Red Ash Worsted (100% Targhee) will take its place in my booth at shows and in my online shop.  Before now Red Ash has been primarily a club fiber.  I was able to purchase enough White Ash to complete the 2016 club obligations.

The club base that was discontinued is Poplar Sock, a 100% silk yarn.  I’d never played with it before because of its high price point, but made it a part of the Luxe club option and am so glad I did.  I fell in love with this yarn.  It’s so soft and pretty!  Smooth, shiny … it’s everything I love about silk in a fingering weight yarn.  Unfortunately, that sold out before I was able to buy enough for the club, so I will have to replace it with another yarn with a similar price point when the time comes.  I’m disappointed, but such is the life of an indie dyer.  I’d show you a photo but I don’t want to spoil it for club members just yet.  Soon.

To assuage that disappointment, I decided to take a peek at a new sock base that my supplier is offering – 92% SW Merino, 8% silver lurex.  FINALLY, HH is getting a sparkle base!  The yarn won’t be to me until April 12, but I have high hopes.  I plan on making a very special debut of this base.

Do you enjoy sparkle yarn?  Do you use it for socks? Shawls?  Let us know in the comments!
